*Milk and other dairy products contain significant amounts of lactose and proteins that are difficult for some individuals to digest. Lactose can also be found in bread, margarine, breakfast cereals, drinks, lunchmeats and salad dressings. Lactose is even found in products labeled as being non-dairy, including coffee creamers. More than 70% of the world's population experiences gastrointestinal discomfort after consumption of milk or dairy products. This is due to the absence of lactase, a digestive enzyme that breaks down lactose. Studies show that supplementing with lactase may support digestion of dairy foods. In addition to providing lactase, Dairyzimes delivers protease enzymes that assist digestion of acid-stable proteins such as beta-lactoglobulin, enhancing overall digestion of dairy products. Beta-lactoglobulin occurs primarily in the whey fraction of milk and may not be broken down by pepsin and pancreatin.
